Book Review: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt Rating: 10/10 Shelby Van Pelt’s Remarkably Bright Creatures is a beautifully crafted novel that explores grief, healing, and unexpected connections. It follows Tova, a widow who finds solace in her night shifts at an aquarium, where she forms an unlikely bond with Marcellus—a curmudgeonly, intelligent octopus with a knack for understanding more than he lets on. As their lives intertwine, secrets unravel, leading to a story that is both heart-wrenching and life-affirming. This book hits deep, capturing the raw emotions of loss and the slow journey of rebuilding life after tragedy. Van Pelt’s writing is tender and insightful, making every character feel real and deeply human. With its perfect balance of sorrow, hope, and quiet humor, this novel is unforgettable. I absolutely loved it—one of those rare books that lingers in your heart long after the final page.

Excellent book that explores love, loss, and the process of establishing roots all while solving a mystery. The Octopus is the best character, and I highly recommend listening to the audio book. The voice for the Octopus is outstanding!

6.5. A fun read, nice to have something centering on romance. And the POV from the octopus was exceptional, truly fun.
